In the early Seventies there was a paradigm shift in communications technology. For the first time, customers could privately own rather than rent their phone systems. In the late eighties Voicemail came on scene. Before then, secretaries were kept busy writing messages on pink message pads that were left on desks or put in message boxes at a central locations for pick up. One year we sold voice mail, hard, to a resistant market that viewed voice mail as impersonal. and a few years later it was unthinkable to imagine business without voice mail. Today there is another paradigm shift, and that is the move to IP telephony. Today, instead of waiting weeks for numbers, a phone number can be aquired in three minutes with a credit card, on the internet. Instead of paying $70.00 for installation and $50.00 a month in usage, it will cost $3.00 and 1.7 cents per minute per line. If you have five lines you will probably save over a thousand dollars a year in money you were just handing over to the phone company. Instead of technicians attending a series of two week schools for certifications on complex equipment, customers can learn configuration in a few minutes over the phone. Cable crews run one network cable to each location instead of a cable for each network location and one for each phone line. With IP, if a person wants to move to a new location in the office, they simply either log in at the phone in the new location or unplug their phone and plug it in in the new location. Done! No telephone man scheduled to move people at expensive rates and inconvieient schedules. While some IP developers are customizing IP phones and Switches for systems (Cisco) most are aligned with industry standards to allow multiple vendors to directly compete for your IP telephone dollar. This drives prices down while providing for more and better features.
We have been and are now, primarily, telephone men. Some in our company have been putting in and customizing systems since those early days in the seventies we talked about above. Screen pops and customer contact software is exciting tool for sales people, but it drives an attorney trying to read an important brief, absolutly crazy! Some computer types think that the more bells and whistles the thing has the "neater" it is, not considering that some of us look at those features as intrusive and counter productive. We're phone guys, we know the difference! We'll help you to take advantage of features you need and remove features for personel that require more peace in the workplace.
